Series: The Book of Acts

Passage: Acts 17:16-34
In the post-Christian vision for our world and our culture, progress replaces God’s presence as the engine of history. The story of post-Christian culture is a story which says that as the world moves away from faith and belief in God that the world will inevitably become a better place. However, according to the theology of the New Testament, we find ourselves firmly in the era about which Jesus proclaimed, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me—disciple all nations—I am with you ALWAYS—even to the end of the age. Jesus is king. Jesus is on the throne. Even in our post-Christian age, Jesus has not been dethroned from his position at God’s right hand. God has not given up on his project of redemption and salvation!
Do you believe that God has created you, made you for this cultural moment? That he has placed you in this time in history, this specific context, so that you can share the good news with your neighbors and loved ones and a culture in desperate need of some good news?

- “There is no going back. We will most likely live the entirety of our lives in an increasingly diverse, contested, globalized, and divided world. This world will also be a fragile one. Thus such a moment will be served by a church that is relevant by being resilient. With change and chaos as the norm, a nostalgic desire to return to golden days is deeply tempting. But instead of wanting to return to the past, we must learn from the past.” Pastor Mark Sayers
- “Religion declined not because it was refuted, but because it became irrelevant, dull, oppressive. When religion speaks only in the name of authority rather than with the voice of compassion—it’s message become meaningless." Abraham Joshua Herschel
