Christian Response to Coronavirus

Series: Love This Book

Summary

1. How has the coronavirus pandemic impacted your life so far?
2. Is there a person that you share your worries with, or do you mostly worry alone?
3. Do you think that all worry is bad, or is there such a thing as legitimate worry?
4. Read Matthew 6:25-34. Reflect: Jesus draws a contrast in this passage. He begins by attacking anxiety. He demonstrates that it is useless to worry. There is nothing positive that comes from it. The day will bring what the day will bring. If we worry about the future we waste time thinking about those things that we cannot control. Jesus is specifically talking about worrying about material things such as good and clothes. Instead of being distracted by such things. Jesus implores his listeners to seek the Kingdom of God. It's a choice we constantly have to make.
Jesus is asking us to examine our hearts. Are we going to spend our energy worrying about our comfort or are we going to focus on the Kingdom?
5. What do you learn about God from this passage?
6. What do you learn about yourself from this passage?
7. What does it mean to engage with this teaching of Jesus in this season of heightened fear and uncertainty?
8. What do you think Jesus means when he says, "Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness"?
9. As a group, in this pandemic time how can you pursue the Kingdom together?
10. Where have you seen God active this week?

Feel free to pray this together as you close your time together. Also, consider praying for any requests individuals might have.

Heidelberg Catechism: What is your only hope in life and death?

That I am not my own, but belong with body and soul,
both in life and in death, to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ.
He has fully paid for all my sins with his precious blood,
and has set me free from all the power of the devil.
He also preserves me in such a way
that without the will of my heavenly Father
not a hair can fall from my head;
indeed, all things must work together
for my salvation.
Therefore, by his Holy Spirit
he also assures me
of eternal life
and makes me heartily willing and ready
form now on to live for him.
